We are pleased to announce that TimelapseLab successfully monitored the construction and launch of the new Star Princess cruise ship, a significant milestone that took place at Fincantieri’s Monfalcone shipyard. This impressive cruise ship is the second LNG (liquefied natural gas) unit built for Princess Cruises and the second-largest ship ever constructed in Italy, with a gross tonnage of approximately 178,000 tons.
The launch ceremony was attended by John Padgett, President of Princess Cruises, and Cristiano Bazzara, Director of Fincantieri’s Monfalcone facility, along with the godmothers Chiara del Vecchio, third engineering officer aboard the Sun Princess, and Francesca Maraventano, executive assistant at the Monfalcone shipyard.
TimelapseLab‘s monitoring allowed us to follow every stage of the Star Princess’s construction, ensuring continuous process control and detailed documentation of the work carried out. The advanced technology of our monitoring devices enabled us to capture time-lapse images and videos, providing a comprehensive view of this remarkable engineering project.
With a capacity of around 4,300 people and a next-generation platform design, the Star Princess represents a major innovation in the cruise industry and will join the Princess Cruises fleet in autumn 2025 as part of the Sphere class.
Thanks to TimelapseLab, it was possible to monitor every detail of this extraordinary construction, once again confirming our commitment to providing cutting-edge monitoring solutions for high-profile projects like this one.
